Bette's sketch

“Bette” is my new no-cost  sweater with a 1940ish look, named after Bette Davis one of my favourite classic Hollywood actresses. The 1940’s glamour  is a 2011/12 fall/winter season fashion trend.

This sweater has a square neckline, a loose-fitting bodice with a laced central motif, a belt emphasizing its tight-fitting waistline and long sleeves reprising in their central part the laced motif.

In the pictures below you can see details of Bette.

The sleeve

The belt defining the waistline

The neckline

Here you can see how the neckline band edge has been knitted separately and then joint to the bodice with a backstitch seam.

Bette and the needles

Bette and the needles

Knitted to fit a XS size, it has been realized using:

  • 300 gr of super fine pure wool yarn in burgundy colour, (recycled from a previously knitted sweater);
  • needles  2,5mm (for ribbed band edges) and 3mm;
  • yarn needle;
  • 1 metal bucket and 80cm approx. of velvet ribbon width 5cm for the belt.

The stitches used are:

  • 2k/2p ribs (edges);
  • Stockinette stitch (used in the back bodice and mixed to the lace motif in bodice front and in sleeves);
  • Arcs and lines laced motifs (see the chart);

    I like your pictures very much – very “theme-related” (especially the red lipstick 🙂 ). And absolutely LOVE the precision of your work! Many handknits usually look exactly that – handknits. And though it is nice to see that the product was made by hand, usually there’s always this grain of wishing it looked less “home-y” and more professional. Yours looks both: handknit AND professional. Wonderful! 🙂

  4. Absolutely gorgeous design and colour *sigh* 🙂
