“They’re like huge seed pods!”

In Italy, prisons are overcrowded and also with people waiting to be judged. That’s the reason why the Italian Parliament is preparing a law to release part of  the prisoners… unfortunately, someone noticed that in the so-called “empty prisons bill” approved by the Senate Justice Commission  there’s a mistake. Thanks to an amendment approved by all the the parties supporting the coalition government (left and right) and the government itself, the detention of a suspect will be possible only if the crime committed can be punished with 5 years of prison or more (today 4 years), ruling out the chance to detain who’s accused of stalking (a crime that often leads to murder and is punished from six month to four years in jail).

Today, after more than ten days, the press turned its attention on this question and, as usual, on TV very indignant members of the parliamentary majority (from left and right) asked for some change.

It would be nice to know who voted to approve the bill, but it’s almost sure that  they were Senators’ doubles produced by huge seed pods coming from the outer space.

A very careful inspection of the Home of the Senate’s cellar is urgently needed.
